XZMPT (pronounced “Exempt”) is the DJ and production alias of Tim James, a UK-based artist whose sound sits at the intersection of groove-driven house, modern tech-house, and classic, funk-influenced dance music. With a training in classical music which goes back to his childhood, and a long-standing career in the in the pop music industry, XZMPT brings an instinctive understanding of rhythm, structure, and energy to his music.

The XZMPT project is built around the idea of freedom from rigid genre rules. The name itself reflects a deliberate exemption from labels and constraints, allowing the music to move naturally between styles while maintaining a consistent identity rooted in groove, musicality, and purpose. Whether behind the decks or in the studio, there’s only one rule – It has to sound good!

As a producer, XZMPT has been gaining increasing recognition for club-ready releases that balance modern production with classic house sensibilities. A standout milestone came in September 2025 with the release of “You Want My Love” on Toolroom Records, one of the most respected and influential labels in global tech house music. Earlier in 2025, XZMPT released a 2 track EP on Krafted Digital, and in early 2026 released a track in collaboration with Amanda Wilson “Let Go” on Curious Energy Records.

As a DJ, XZMPT had performed all across the UK and Europe, including Brighton, Hull, Ibiza, Amsterdam, Croatia and Berlin. He is a regular performer for Deja Vu and The Old School House and Courtyard in Hull and is able to play warm-up or headline sets as required.
